Kevin Hart gets standing ovation at People's Choice Awards after car accident
He spoke about his appreciation for his family and his fans.
Kevin Hart made his first appearance at a public event at the 2019 E! People's Choice Awards on Sunday after being seriously injured in a car crash in Los Angeles on Sept. 1.
While accepting the Comedy Act Of 2019 award, Hart delivered a message about strength and the fragility of life.
"First and foremost thank God because I definitely don't have to be here," he said. "Being that I am, it makes me appreciate life even more."
"It makes me appreciate the things that really matter, family," he continued. "I want to thank my wife and my kids ... I want to thank you all for being there for me during my difficult time."
He also shared his appreciation for fans extending their support after the accident.
"You have no idea the effect you have on us as entertainers your energy, your support," he said. "It means the world and I truly want to thank you guys for being there for me in my difficult time."
Hart previously opened up on the severity of his accident that he said "forever changed" his life in an Instagram video on Oct. 29.
Although he did not specify his exact injuries, it's been reported that he fractured his spine in three places in the crash. His video documents what appears to be a grueling recovery process.
"I swear, life is funny," he says in the video. "Because some of the craziest things that happen to you end up being the thing that you needed most. And in this case, I honestly feel like God basically told me to sit down."
He also shared an inspiring message about appreciating life's moments.
"Don't take today for granted because tomorrow's not promised," he continued. "I'm thankful for simply still being here; the road to being a bigger and better version of me. Looking forward to an amazing 2020."
