Lily Allen shares message to celebrate 2 years of sobriety
"Getting clean is the BEST thing I ever did," she wrote.
"Smile" singer Lily Allen marked a major milestone in her sobriety journey: she is officially two years sober.
The 36-year-old artist took to Instagram on Wednesday to celebrate her hard work and show off her healthy glow.
"2 Years Drug and Alcohol free today," she celebrated in the caption, noting how her new lifestyle opened new doors for her.
"Getting clean is the BEST thing i ever did, and i’ve done a lot of cool s---."
She also encouraged her fans to check out her latest project. "Come see me in the play i’ve been working on," she wrote, mentioning the show "2:22 A Ghost Story." The play opens Aug. 3 in London's Noël Coward Theatre and runs for 11 weeks.
The singer previously opened up about her extensive battle with addiction on The Recovery podcast, where she said she first started drinking because she grappled with low self esteem while at boarding school.
Following the release of her 2006 album "Alright, Still," the singer said she started to experiment with drugs and her addiction worsened. She said she eventually hit rock bottom after touring with Miley Cyrus on her 2014 Bangerz Tour, where she cheated on then-husband Sam Cooper, causing her marriage to end.
The now-sober singer is married to "Stranger Things" actor David Harbour, whom she tied the knot with in September 2020.
