Ruth Carter won the Academy Award for best costume design for "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever."

"Thank you to the academy for recognizing the superhero that is a Black woman," Carter said in her acceptance speech. "She endures, she loves, she overcomes, she is every woman in this film, she is my mother."

Carter then revealed that her mother Mabel Carter died this past week and "became an ancestor" at 101.

"This is for my mother," Carter added.

Carter won her first Oscar in 2019 for the first "Black Panther" film. With this win, she became the first Black woman to win multiple Oscars in any category.

Other nominees in the category included "Babylon," "Elvis," "Everything Everywhere All at Once" and "Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris."

“The Whale” won the Academy Award for best makeup and hairstyling.

The other four films nominated in the category included "All Quiet on the Western Front,” "The Batman,” "Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and "Elvis.”

“Everything Everywhere All at Once” star Stephanie Hsu joined Oscar-winning singer-songwriter David Byrne and experimental music trio Son Lux in a mesmerizing performance of the Oscar-nominated original song “This is a Life.”

Artist Mitski, who is nominated for the song, co-wrote “This is a Life” and performed it with Byrne and Son Lux on the “Everything Everywhere All at Once” soundtrack.

Ahead of their performance, Son Lux, which includes artists Ian Chang, Ryan Lott and Rafiq Bhatia, tweeted that they are “thrilled to perform ‘This is a Life’ from @allatoncemovie on @TheAcademy Oscars telecast.”

On the “Everything Everywhere All at Once” soundtrack, Hsu sings the song “Sucked Into A Bagel” with Son Lux.

James Friend won the Academy Award for cinematography for "All Quiet on the Western Front."

The other four films nominated in the category included "Bardo, False Chronicle of a Handful of Truths," "Elvis," "Empire of Light" and "Tár."

Brendan Fraser won the Academy Award for best actor for his performance in "The Whale."

Fraser, appearing visibly shocked and emotional upon accepting his trophy, began by thanking the film's director Darren Aronofsky for throwing him "a creative lifetime and hauling me aboard the good ship 'The Whale.'"

Reflecting on his journey in the entertainment industry, which started 30 years ago, he added, "Things -- they didn't come easily to me, but there was a facility that I didn't appreciate at the time until it stopped."

Other actors nominated in the category included Austin Butler for his performance in "Elvis," Colin Farrell for his performance in "The Banshees of Inisherin," Paul Mescal for his performance in "Aftersun" and Bill Nighy for his performance in "Living."

All were first-time Oscar nominees.
