"The Elephant Whisperers" won the Academy Award for best documentary short film.

Other films nominated in the category included "Haulout," "How Do You Measure a Year?," "The Martha Mitchell Effect" and "Stranger at the Gate."

"All Quiet on the Western Front" won the Academy Award for best international feature film.

This is the third win in the best international feature film category for Germany. After thanking his entire crew, including the movie's costume designer, production designer and hair and makeup designer, director Edward Berger said, "I owe everything to you."

The other films nominated in the category included, "Argentina, 1985" (Argentina), "Close" (Belgium), "EO" (Poland) and "The Quiet Girl" (Ireland).

Host Jimmy Kimmel delighted the audience when he brought out a special guest during the ceremony: a donkey.

The appearance was a reference to Jenny the donkey, the famous animal that appeared in "The Banshees of Inisherin."

Kimmel joked that the donkey was a "certified emotional support donkey," saying, "If you are feeling upset or anxious or maybe you just love mules, feel free to come up and give her a hug."

"The Banshees of Inisherin" star Colin Farrell blew the donkey a kiss from his seat in the audience, while co-star Brendan Gleeson waved.

Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava got the Oscars audience off their feet with their performance of “Naatu Naatu” from the film “RRR,” which is nominated for best original song.

In an interview last month with “Good Morning America,” “RRR” actor Ram Charan, who stars in the music video, said filming took place in the Mariinskyi Palace in Kyiv, Ukraine, before the war began.

Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert won the Oscar for best director for their film "Everything Everywhere All at Once."

The directors, known collectively as the Daniels, each dedicated their win to their parents.

"Thank you for not squashing my creativity when I was making really disturbing horror films or really perverted comedy films or dressing in drag as a kid, which is a threat to nobody," Scheinert said.

Kwan thanked his father for passing down a love of movies to him and his mother for giving him a "creative heart."

Other directors nominated for the award included Martin McDonagh for "The Banshees of Inisherin," Steven Spielberg for "The Fabelmans," Todd Field for "Tár" and Ruben Östlund for "Triangle of Sadness."
