Miley Cyrus mourns the death of her grandmother: 'You will FOREVER be my inspiration'
"Even though you are gone.... NOTHING has or ever will change."
Miley Cyrus is mourning the loss of her beloved grandmother, whom she affectionately called "Mammie."
Fans came to know and love Cyrus' 85-year-old grandmother, Loretta Finley, thanks to her regularly crashing the red carpet or appearing in the singer's Instagram posts over the years.
Finley was understandably Cyrus' self-professed "icon." Over the weekend, the 27-year-old shared a series of emotional tributes for her grandmother.
"Even though you are gone… NOTHING has or ever will change. You will FOREVER be my inspiration and fashion icon. Even more than that, the ultimate model of being a true LIGHT in a dark world," the "Hannah Montana" alum wrote in a post shared on Saturday.
She continued, "You are sunshine. Everyday I wake and see that fiery ball in the sky I will see your face. Even more than that, the ultimate model of being a true LIGHT in a dark world. You are sunshine. Everyday I wake and see that fiery ball in the sky I will see your face."
Vowing that her family will "ache everyday you are not with us," Cyrus further honored Mammie by sharing stories that revealed just how close the two were.
One of Cyrus' many tributes reflected on a hilarious incident with Snoop Dogg, as the singer admitted via a throwback photo of the three posing in the kitchen, "Mammie baking brownies with @snoopdogg ..... she never knew we snuck weed in them..."
"I will miss you and your good cookin’ so much," she added.
In the days leading up to Cyrus' announcement, the "Slide Away" artist apologized via Instagram stories for the social media silence.
"I know it feels like I disappeared that last few days.... but someone that means more to me than words can say did the same," she wrote. "I am completely heart broken."
Billy Ray Cyrus also shared a family photo and reflected on the loss of his mother-in-law in the caption of the post.
"Our family lost a beautiful light that shined so brightly and influenced us all to keep faith in a better tomorrow," he wrote. "My thoughts and prayers are with Tish and the kids."
"Loretta Jean Finley 'Mammie' you will be missed but never forgotten," he added.
