Reese Witherspoon drops major hint that 'Legally Blonde 3' is definitely happening
"Legally Blonde" will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2021.
"Legally Blonde" will celebrate its 20th anniversary in 2021 and it appears Elle Woods' story is far from over.
Actress Reese Witherspoon hinted about the possibility of "Legally Blonde 3" on Monday when chatting with Jennifer Lopez on Instagram Live about the 2001 movie.
Witherspoon was promoting her new Quibi show "Fierce Queens" and invited J.Lo to also plug her own show on the platform, "Thanks a Million."
The "Ain't It Funny" singer took a chance to talk about Witherspoon's other plans -- specifically those that revolve around a vivacious attorney that adores wearing pink couture.
Lopez first broached the Elle Woods-shaped topic by saying she watched "Legally Blonde" with her 12-year-old twins, Max and Emme, and raved about how much they all loved the movie.
"They loved it, loved it. It was so much fun. You were so amazing in that. It’s so great," Lopez praised before going into how much her daughter wants to see Elle's story continue. She then incorrectly guessed that there's already three "Legally Blonde" movies.
"Well, no," Witherspoon delicately interjected before laying it on real thick that J.Lo might be on to something. "There’s two," she mused, "but I’m thinking we might be working on a three."
Of course, Lopez immediately pounced on the information and relentlessly encouraged, "You should, you should. That character was so amazing and so empowering and inspiring." Lopez then said characters like Elle Woods are "great for girls."
Witherspoon previously teased a "Legally Blonde 3" was in the pipeline, telling "Entertainment Tonight" last May that she currently has "a script, but we haven't shot anything."
A sequel to "Legally Blonde," titled "Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde," was released in 2003.
