Serena Williams announces 2 books: What she plans to write about
Williams, 42, stepped away from professional tennis in 2022.
Serena Williams is ready to tell her life story.
The history-making tennis star plans to write two books, a memoir and an inspirational book, according to Random House, which plans to publish both books.
"For so long, all I was focused on was winning, and I never sat down to look back and reflect on my life and career," Williams, 42, said in a statement shared by Random House. "Over the last year, I've really enjoyed taking the time with my growing family to celebrate my accomplishments and explore my other passions. I couldn't be at a more perfect place to be able to take on such a personal intimate project, and there's no one I would rather do it with than the team at Random House."
Williams stepped away from professional tennis in 2022 after a record-breaking career that included four Olympic gold medals and 23 Grand Slam singles titles.
In August, Williams gave birth to her second child, a daughter named Adira River Ohanian. Williams also shares a 6-year-old daughter, Olympia, with husband Alexis Ohanian.
Williams' memoir will detail the births of her two children and her relationship with Ohanian, as well as her rise from growing up in Compton, California, to the top of the sport of tennis, according to Random House.
Her second, inspirational book will share the tennis star's "rules for living."
"For her second, inspirational book, Williams will offer rules for living that draw on her experiences as a philanthropist and advocate, her career as an investment unicorn with Serena Ventures, and someone who has long sought to lift a diverse and emergent generation of young women whose aspirations are not confined to the court," Random House said in its statement. "Both books will be bound by an unwavering belief in the power of perseverance, overcoming adversity and dreaming unabashedly."
Publish dates for the books have not been announced.
Both books will also be released as audiobooks, according to Random House.
