Sia opens up about why she adopted her sons and her plans to foster children
Sia shared the story of why she decided to adopt in a new cover story.
It's only been a few months since Sia revealed that she adopted two sons last year and now she's opening up about how it all happened.
In the October issue of Vogue Australia, which Sia, 44, graced the cover of, she shared the story of why she decided to adopt her sons, revealing that she first saw one of her sons in a documentary.
"I am obsessed with reality television and documentaries, and I watched a documentary and saw my son," she said. "I was like: ‘What? Like, he doesn’t have anybody. Oh my God. I’m going to find him and I’m going to be his mummy.’ And so that’s what I did."
The "Chandelier" singer adopted the boy and his friend, both of whom were 18-years-old at the time and about to age out of the system. She announced this news in May 2020 during an interview with SiriusXM's "The Morning Mash Up."
The singer told "Good Morning America" in June that motherhood is "a blessing" for her. "For me, I think they saved me, so I'm in heaven," she said.
She also admitted that the adoptions came with challenges.
"They both suffered a lot and I've been able to get them the help -- I have the resources to get them the help that they needed for their early trauma," she said. "It's taken a year and we've had our ups and downs, but we've never been in a better place than today, in fact."
During the singer's interview with Vogue Australia, she also revealed she is considering growing her family even more.
"I have obviously such an overflow of love that I could definitely see myself doing it again, but not for a while," she said on motherhood.
"The next thing I’m planning to do is foster actual infants," she continued. "Maybe [their mother] is drug-addicted and then I could help look after them until, you know, their mum can get back on the wagon or an adoptive home is found. If I can do that then I think I’ll feel like I’m superhuman."
