'Soul', 'Luca' and 'Turning Red' heading to theaters for the 1st time

Tickets go on sale Jan. 2 for the special engagement theatrical runs.

Three Disney and Pixar movies that made their debuts on Disney+ during the pandemic are heading to theaters for the first time.

"Soul," "Turning Red" and "Luca," will hit the big screen nationwide for "special engagement theatrical runs," which invites moviegoers to experience the films "the way they were meant to be seen ahead of the studio's June 2024 theatrical release of 'Inside Out 2,'" according to a press release.

"Soul," which premiered on Disney+ in December 2020, featured the voice of actor Jamie Foxx. It went on to win the Oscar for Best Animated Feature, and Best Achievement in Music Written for a Motion Picture for Trent Reznor, Atticus Ross, and Jon Batiste's original score, as well as Golden Globes for Best Motion Picture — animated and Best Original score — motion picture, and a Grammy for best score soundtrack for visual media.

Similarly, "Luca," an animated adventure on the Italian Riviera, which was released in June 2021 on Disney+, was nominated for an Oscar in the animated feature category.

"Turning Red," which was released in March 2022 on the streaming platform, was also nominated for an Oscar in the animated feature category.

Tickets go on sale Jan. 2 for the special engagement theatrical runs. Each film will also be accompanied by a Pixar animated short ahead of each of them, according to Walt Disney Studios.

"Soul," which hits theaters first on Jan. 12, will be accompanied by "Burrow," an entry from Pixar Animation Studios' SparkShort label.

"Turning Red" opens Feb. 9, and will be preceded by the SparkShort "Kitbull."

"Luca" comes to the big screen on March 22, including the classic Pixar short "For the Birds."
