An 8-year-old competitive golfer in self-isolation with his family has been working around the clock to nail a shot -- and his efforts have paid off.
Nicholas Rodriguez has been playing golf for two years, his mother, Cristina Rodriguez, told "Good Morning America."
"He typically plays a round on Saturdays and Sundays with family and friends and practices at least once a week," the Miami mom said. Nicholas last played on March 12.
He was able to get the attention of an MLB baseball player with his attempts. Jon Jay of the Arizona Diamondbacks sent words of encouragement on Friday and the very next morning Nicholas landed the shot.
Now Nick is hoping his golf idol Rickie Fowler will like his Instagram posts.
Making the shot he had worked so hard on was a bright spot in what's been a difficult time for Nicholas and he hopes it will make other people smile too.
"I miss having fun playing with O [his uncle] and my friends," he told "GMA." "But I’ve been practicing a lot."
