2-year-old boy goes viral after seeing lookalike in 'Encanto'
"I truly believe that he thought it was him," his mom said.
A 2-year-old boy has gone viral for his sweet reaction to seeing his lookalike in Disney's new film, "Encanto."
Kenzo Brooks was watching "Encanto" with his family over the holidays when he noticed that Antonio, one of the characters in the movie, looked exactly like him.
His parents Keith Brooks and Kaheisha Brand joined "Good Morning America" Friday with their son who said they truly believe Kenzo thought the animated character was him.
"My initial reaction was I remember we first see him turn back and look at us and we were like, 'Whoa,' it just took us aback," Keith Brooks told "GMA." "I said, 'Does he notice this looks like him?' And just to see his reaction afterwards as he sat down on the floor and just tuned in as you can see in that video -- he just also clapped. And that photo you saw where he's standing next to the character, Antonio, it was just extremely like off guard like we caught it and we captured that moment and it was amazing."
Kaheisha shared a photo of the moment on social media with the hashtag #RepresentationMatters.
"It means the world to me, again, I didn't have the same experience growing up," his mom told "GMA," adding that the first they remembered seeing an inclusive character was "The Princess and The Frog." "I do believe there is power in representation and it does empower young black and brown children."
Now, Kenzo has both a new favorite film and a Disney doppelganger.
“It made me feel emotional to know that my son was able to see this and have that experience," Keith said. “And for so many other Black and brown boys and girls to be able to have that same experience."
The family was surprised with a free three-night trip to Walt Disney World live on "GMA."
"That's amazing, thank you so much," the parents said.
"Encanto" is produced by Disney, the parent company of ABC and Good Morning America.
