Robin Roberts' Country Roots
Five things you didn't know about Robin's country music background.
Oct. 29, 2009 -- Robin Roberts has had a long love affair with country music, starting as a young girl growing up in the heart of the South.
Fans may be surprised to know that she learned some of the basics of broadcasting while spinning records at a country music station, and that her cowboy boots have been getting a workout ever since. ABC News has unearthed some little-known nuggets about "Good Morning America's" anchor, showing how deep her country roots really go.
While in college, Robin Roberts began her broadcasting career at country radio station WFPR-AM in Hammond, La.
Robin grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, also home to famous country crooner Chris LeDoux and rocker Jimmy Buffett, who got his start as a country singer in Nashville.
Robin's favorite country song is "Sleeping Single in a Double Bed." "I'm a huge Barbara Mandrell fan ... title says it all," Roberts said.
Robin's most memorable country moment: outhouse races on the "Ralph Emery Show." "It was a hoot," Roberts said.
