Pantone announces 2020 Color of the Year

We're (classic) blue da ba dee da ba daa.

'Tis the season for the Pantone Color of the Year and "Classic Blue" takes the coveted spot for 2020.

"Classic Blue encourages us to look beyond the obvious to expand our thinking; challenging us to think more deeply, increase our perspective and open the flow of communication,” Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, said in a statement.

Pantone has partnered with brands to bring "Classic Blue" to life in a new and unique way, from taste to scent and texture, which should offer everyone obsessed with the color the perfect shopping inspiration.

"The way to start a conversation around color and engage with color is very different today and we wanted to be able to share this with our audience and bring them with us on a colorful journey. To share in this color in a more holistic way. To be able to engage with color through all of their different senses," Pressman told "GMA."

Although the company picks a new color annually, we expect "Classic Blue" to make a permanent mark on everything from fashion to interior design.

Last year's color was "Living Coral" and helped inspire many design trends, including pink Christmas Trees.

The Pantone Color Institute spends the year scouring the globe — from the runway to current events, technology trends and more — to find shades that are influencing society to choose its Color of the Year.

Previous picks have included "Ultra Violet" (2018), "Greenery" (2017), "Rose Quartz" and "Serenity" (2016).
