What is a Snow Moon? The spiritual meaning behind this full moon
The Snow Moon, the second full moon of the year, is on Feb. 24.
Cozy up and celebrate the Snow Moon this month -- the second full moon of the year -- with these tips from celebrity astrologer Kyle Thomas, who is known for his cosmic guidance among celebrities, businesses and online influencers.
Thomas spoke to "Good Morning America" about the best ways to take advantage of this lunar event.
First, let's break down the meaning of the Snow Moon.
When is the Snow Moon in 2024?
The Snow Moon will arrive Saturday morning, Feb. 24, 2024, at 7:30 a.m. ET.
The Old Farmer's Almanac notes that the moon "will be below the horizon at this time, so for the best view of this Moon, look for it starting the night before or later on Saturday; it will drift above the horizon in the east around sunset and reach its highest point in the sky around midnight."
Why is it called the Snow Moon?
According to the Old Farmer's Almanac, which first began publishing names for full moons in the 1930s, the full moon in February was dubbed the Snow Moon because of the heavy snow that typically falls during this season.
Native American tribes in the northwestern United States also referred to the Snow Moon as the Storm Moon, because of heavy snow storms, or Hunger Moon, due to difficulty hunting during the winter.
What zodiac sign is the Snow Moon in February?
During each lunar cycle, which is approximately 29.5 days, there is one full moon. Depending on the time of year, a full moon will fall into different zodiac signs, resulting in different characteristics, according to Thomas.
The Snow Moon this year falls in the sky as a full moon in Virgo -- a practical, grounded and efficient Earth zodiac sign -- and will bring productivity and rule employment, work projects, coworkers, pets and one's physical health, Thomas said.
Full moon rituals and manifestations to try during the Snow Moon
From Chinese traditions to Hebrew holidays, many ancient cultures celebrate celestial cycles and often revere the power of the moon.
Due to this energy, many astrologers believe that a full moon is a great time to capture its magic and use it toward manifesting your dreams.
Thomas said that since this year's Snow Moon is in Virgo, "streamlining our plans, schedules and routines will help us to make more progress and get where we wish to be much faster."
"Creating positive changes around diet, fitness and health will also do well now," he added.
Using soil or plants can be helpful to set up your intentions for an earth sign like Virgo. Thomas said an effective way to manifest could be writing a list of goals that you'd like to build toward and then burying them in a field or your garden.

Cancer (June 21 to July 22)
The Snow Moon could be bringing some truths and frictions in your life from people around you, which potentially create some drama. Thomas said to breathe through it and use this as a chance for authentic connection rather than pointing fingers.
Leo (July 23 to Aug. 22)
It may be time to take a break and reassess your finances, Leo. If for some reason you lose a stream of income now, you'll need to quickly search for something fresh, said Thomas.

The Snow Moon will help you step into power and reveal your true self to the world, Virgo. According to Thomas, "this is a turning point for you, so reach for the stars and see which ones you can grab."

Taking a step back might be a good idea to recover from burnout. "Also, this lunation is a bit wonky, so be sure to not push yourself too hard or you may get sick," Thomas said.

Capricorn (Dec. 22 to Jan. 19)
Be ready to begin a new journey, Capricorn. Thomas said "you could be seeing a culmination around an intellectual project, travel opportunity, academics initiative or media pursuit -- but be sure you're checking everything twice and reading the fine print."
Aquarius (Jan. 20 to Feb. 18)
This lunation puts a microscope on your relationship with others who appear to not be on the same page as you. According to Thomas, "The best thing to do is move forward decisively, but still hold compassion in your heart. People will listen to you better if you're amicable rather than throwing down a torch."
Pisces (Feb. 19 to March 20)
Whether in business or love, it seems that you're ready to take the relationship to the next level. "While this lunation could certainly bring you closer, whether by moving in, getting engaged or even being wed, it would be best to truly discuss one another's innermost needs to make sure you're on the same page," Thomas said.
