What Are Hottest Hair Looks for Spring?

Jan. 12, 2004 -- If the red carpet is any indication, the hottest hairstyles for spring will be pixie cuts, undone ponytails and the sexy blonde bombshell style made famous by French actress Brigitte Bardot.

Cameron Diaz has been spotted wearing the undone ponytail, Michelle Pfeiffer has tried the long, sexy Bardot look, and Kirsten Dunst has gone for the pixie cut.

Sally Hershberger, executive director for John Frieda Sheer Blonde, says that "sexy, slightly undone and very feminine' styles will be in this spring. Bangs will be worn longer and swept across the face as they grow out. Hershberger has made headlines lately as the highest-priced hairstylist in Hollywood. She charges $600 for a haircut.

To get the looks at home, here are Hershberger's tips on three styles, and the specific John Frieda products she recommends to achieve them:

The Ponytail

The smooth, super-shiny ponytail that graced the runways at spring fashion previews for the hottest designers will be in for spring, Hershberger said

To create the look:

1. Use Frizz-Ease Hair Serum ($9.99, johnfrieda.com) on soaking wet hair to help tame frizz and make hair silky. Separate hair into two-inch sections and use a large round brush to blow dry hair straight, working piece by piece. Once hair is straight, take a couple drops of Sheer Blonde Spotlight Sleek and Shine detangler ($5.50, johnfrieda.com) and smooth over hair for a sleek, glossy finish.

2. Next, decide if you want to part your hair in the middle, or on the side and pull hair back into a low ponytail, twisting hair into a bun at the nape of your neck. For a slightly more undone look, pull only part of the hair through your elastic, leaving it messy in back and sleek in front. 3. If you are in the process of growing out last season's bangs, sweep them low across your forehead and to the side, letting them fall in front of one eye. To give them a sexy, tousled texture, rub a small amount of Sheer Blonde Spun Gold ($5.50, johnfrieda.com) onto your fingertips and smooth a thin film onto hair. Finish by smoothing a couple more drops of Sheer Blonde Spotlight detangler over hair for a super-shiny finish.

The Bombshell

The runways of Louis Vuitton, Versace and Badgley Mischka featured models wearing the long, ultra-feminine Bardot hair, a classic style that stays fresh year after year.

To create the look:

The key to the Bardot look is to use your brush and hair dryer to give your hair a lot of volume.

1. After towel drying hair, spray on Sheer Blonde Full-Blown Blonde Volumizing Spray ($5.50, johnfrieda.com) making sure that you get the under sections and roots. Flip hair upside down and begin blow-drying, brushing hair away from your scalp for a couple of minutes. While hair is still damp, divide hair into sections and use a large round brush to blow dry straight, while still leaving it with some body.

2. Once hair is dry, spray Full-Blown Blonde directly to the roots of the hair and blow dry hair in the opposite direction it falls to create extra lift at the roots. Next, divide hair again and roll into large Velcro rollers. Spray Sheer Blonde Crystal Clear Shape and Shimmer Hair Spray ($5.50, johnfrieda.com) all over and use your blow dryer to set the style. Keep the rollers in your head for at least 10 minutes and remove for big, sexy, feminine hair.

3. Rub a pea-sized amount of Sheer Blonde Dream Crème instant silkener ($5.50, johnfrieda.com) between palms and apply to the hair, to smooth flyaways and tame frizz. Next, spray hair with Sheer Blonde Crystal Clear hair spray to hold.
