Disney auctioning off Beyonce's 'Black is King' catsuit and other designer pieces to celebrate 100th anniversary

Tommy Hilfiger and other visionaries donated pieces for the charity auction.

In celebration of 100 years of Disney, the company has commissioned 100 extra-special pieces from artists, designers and visionaries across the globe for an auction that will benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Items up for grabs include Beyoncé's iconic "Black is King" catsuit, a one-of-a-kind Maison Margiela tee featuring Mickey Mouse and a sculpture that pays tribute to the late designer Virgil Abloh.

"100 years of storytelling, 100 special contributions by renowned creative visionaries," Disney states on the auction's official page. "For 100 years, Disney stories have inspired creators, influenced pop-culture and connected generations across the world. To mark its 100th anniversary, Disney invited world-renowned creative visionaries across fashion, film, music and art, to make special contributions inspired by their personal connection to Disney's stories and characters. Each could also nominate an emerging talent representing the future of creativity to be part of the program."

The auction takes place across 18 countries from Oct. 12-30.

Disney kicked off the occasion with a $1 million donation to Make-A-Wish globally to help fund countless experiences for terminally critically ill children. The foundation's goals include more than simply gifting good times to the kids, though, as they elucidate in their official mission statement, "For wish kids, just the act of making their wish come true can give them the courage to comply with their medical treatments. Parents might finally feel like they can be optimistic. And still others might realize all they have to offer the world through volunteer work or philanthropy."

Tommy Hilfiger and Clarence Ruth of Cotte D'armes Polo Gown

This innovative design blends the worlds of Hilfiger and Disney by utilizing the designer's penchant for preppy, all-American pieces like the polo shirts, while whisking in the fantastical whimsy of a princess gown. Designer and artist Clarence Ruth donated the gown to the auction, writing on Instagram that it was a "true honor to be a part of this remarkable celebration, which embodies the essence of blessing, inspiring, and supporting others."

"The influence of iconic brands like @disney and @tommyhilfiger has been a continuous source of inspiration, empowering me to foster ambitious dreams," Ruth wrote. "These brands have played a pivotal role in shaping my vision... As the creative process unfolded, I found myself drawn to the idea of The Polo Gown, a creation that harmoniously encapsulates the timeless elegance of Tommy Hilfiger’s preppy polo shirt and the enchanting, whimsical aura synonymous with Disney. This symbiotic fusion encapsulates both worlds, resulting in a design that transcends convention."

Maison Margiela Recicla one-of-a-kind piece with Mickey Mouse

Maison Margiela donated this one-of-a-kind piece, part of the Recicla collection (a portmanteau of "recycle" and "replica"), reworked from a Mickey Mouse tee shirt found in Los Angeles in the 1980s. The reworking happened the design house's Paris atelier, and the top was featured in the Co-Ed 2023 collection.
