Karol G claims she was misrepresented on latest magazine cover: 'My face does not look like this'

Karol G is not happy with her latest magazine cover.

The Colombian singer took to Instagram Thursday, calling out GQ for the cover of its GQ Mexico April/May 2023 issue, on which she stars.

In the cover photo, she is seen wearing a green minidress with cutouts and her signature red hair.

"Today my GQ magazine cover was made public, a cover with an image that DOES NOT represent me," she captioned the post. "My face does not look like this, my body does not look like that and I feel very happy and comfortable with how I look naturally."

The "Provenza" singer said she was thankful for the opportunity, but disappointed that her concerns about the photo edits were, she added, not taken into consideration. "They didn't do anything about [those concerns], as if to look good I needed all those changes," she claimed.

She said she was aware that speaking out on the issue could have repercussions. "But beyond feeling that this is disrespectful to me, it is disrespectful to the women who wake up every day looking to feel comfortable with ourselves, despite society's stereotypes," she added.

ABC News has reached out to GQ for comment but did not immediately hear back.

Karol G is a part of the publication's first-ever Global Creativity Awards Issue, which highlights multidisciplinary, multi-platform and highly collaborative innovators from across music, fashion, film, business, art, sports and more.

She opened up in an accompanying cover story interview about everything from her new album to backlash she's faced previously on social media.

"I need for this album to come out, because I'm going to be sick," she said, referring to her newest album "Mañana Será Bonito," which dropped two weeks after her GQ interview.

"[I'm] exposing a very personal part of myself to the public," she added. "I express a lot of pain in my songs…. People have told me that they've been able to get through heartbreaks with my songs."
