Nike honors Kobe Bryant during New York Fashion Week
The athletic brand showcased a touching moment honoring Kobe Bryant.
With many still mourning the death of Kobe Bryant, Nike found a touching way to pay tribute to his legacy during the brand's recent show.
On Wednesday, the Nike 2020 forum event kicked off New York Fashion Week with a show unveiling uniforms for the Tokyo Olympics, new sportswear and the latest innovations coming from the brand this year.
While the inclusive show included everything from a diverse pool of athletes dressed in a variety of different looks, one of the highlights was when six young athletes appeared wearing Los Angeles Lakers jerseys with Bryant's former numbers (8 and 24).
It was a special moment honoring the life and legacy of the late basketball star who died earlier this year in a helicopter crash alongside his daughter Gianna.
The Swoosh brand also released a statement on Instagram on the day of Bryant's death.
"He was one of the greatest athletes of his generation and has had an immeasurable impact on the world of sport and the community of basketball," the statement read. "He was a beloved member of the Nike family. We will miss him greatly. Mamba forever."
Toward the conclusion of Wednesday's show, the young models came back out for the finale, walking hand-in-hand with star athletes such as English Gardner, Lisa Leslie and Brandi Chastain.
