Second Accusation Emerges Against Ben Roethlisberger

April 16, 2010— -- A second woman has told police that Pittsburgh Steeler quarterback Ben Roethlisberger sexually accosted her while he was drunk, according to a police report.

The fresh accusation came as the National Football League is considering disciplinary measures against the star quarterback. It's not clear whether the new allegations could affect those calculations.

"Big Ben" Roethlisberger dodged prosecution earlier this week when a Georgia district attorney announced that he could not prove that the quarterback had raped a 20-year-old sorority girl in a nightclub bathroom. The girl told the DA she did not want to proceed with a prosecution.

Because of news coverage of that incident, word was passed to Georgia investigators about earlier incidents involving a woman who was 21 or 22 and worked at the Great Waters golf course near Roethlisberger's home on Lake Oconee.

The alleged incidents were reported to the Milledgeville police by Linc Boyer, who works with the department's Explorer Program, according to a police report.

Police contacted the woman, but she declined to press charges and asked that her name not be released. The police report has her name blacked out.

The report states, however, that she drove an inebriated Roethlisberger home from a party and helped him into his bedroom. When she tried to leave, however, he slammed the door shut and pulled down his pants, the police report states.

The report does not state when the alleged incident occurred.

A week later, Roethlisberger invited the woman to a party at his home, according to the police document. He showed her his new bed and asked her to lie down on it, the report states.

"During this, Roethlisberger was allegedly forceful with ... and put his hand up .... skirt. Eventually ... was able to push Roethlisberger's hand away and ... went to leave the residence. As she left, Roethlisberger allegedly became angry with .... ," the police report states.

Like the other incident, the woman and her family declined to press charges.

Officer Who Questioned Roethlisberger Resigns

In addition, Roethlisberger is also being sued in civil court by a former Nevada hotel employee for an alleged sexual assault in 2008. No criminal charges were filed in that case.

Milledgeville Police Chief Woodrow Blue also confirmed to the Associated Press that Sgt. Jerry Blash, the officer who took the first report from Roethlisberger's accuser at the nightclub, has resigned from the police force.

The documents show Blash has posed for pictures with Roethlisberger earlier in the night and acknowledged to investigators that he made derogatory statements about Roethlisberger's accuser to other officers. Blash was the only officer to interview Roethlisberger about the accusation against him.

League officials have signaled that action will likely be taken against Roethlisberger following the NFL Draft next week.

Sources in the league told ESPN, that Roethlisberger will likely receive a suspension of between two and four games. That, however, was before the second accusation emerged.

The Steelers too will pay a price for Roethlisberger's alleged off-field transgressions, potentially facing league penalties "in the neighborhood of $200,000," according to ESPN.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell implemented a stricter conduct code two years ago to clean up the league's image of too often dismissing the off-field antics of its players.

The documents released also included graphic description of what happened in the Milledgeville nightclub in the words of the woman who filed the complaint and her sorority friends.

"I told him it wasn't ok, no, we don't need to do this and I proceeded to get up and try to leave," the 20-year-old woman told police on March 5, following the nightclub incident. "I went to the first door I saw, which happened to be a bathroom."

According to her statement, Roethlisberger followed her into the bathroom and shut the door."I still said no, this is not OK, and he then had sex with me," she wrote. "He said it was OK. He then left without saying anything."

Friends of the woman told police that Roethlisberger's body guards, both off-duty Pennsylvania cops, prevented them from trying to find and help the woman.

Ann Marie Lubatti told police she approached one of Roethlisberger's two bodyguards and said, "This isn't right. My friend is back there with Ben. She needs to come back right now."

Prosecutors Said He Lacked Evidence to Convict Roethlisberger

The details of that alleged assault were released just days after Fred Bright, the district attorney for the Ocmulgee Judicial Circuit in Milledgeville held a press conference to say Roethlisberger's accuser did not want to press charges, and he would not have enough evidence to create a case without her testimony.

An attorney for the woman said she did not want to endure the media frenzy that would have accompanied the trial, but was not recanting her testimony.
