Tom Holland reprises his role as Peter Parker for Avengers Campus' Spider-Man ride

Channel your inner Spider-Man at Marvel's new ride coming to Disneyland Resort.

Disney Parks announced Tuesday that actor Tom Holland will reprise his role as Peter Parker for the upcoming attraction, WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure.

“What Walt Disney Imagineers have created is pretty spectacular,” said Holland. “When I first joined playing Spider-Man, I went to Avengers headquarters and it was just a bunch of green screens. So the fact that there will be a legit place where people can go and visit is pretty awesome."

The upcoming 3-D experience will catapult guests into Spider-Man’s world via the WEB SLINGER vehicle, a new invention from Peter Parker and the Worldwide Engineering Brigade (W.E.B.) Tech team.

The attraction starts with guests attending an open house where the W.E.B. Tech team introduces their adorable Spider-Bots, robotic sidekicks capable of building anything a superhero might need. But when Parker’s demonstration goes awry, they start devouring all the technology in Parker’s lab and are beginning to escape all over campus.

So, in groups of eight, guests are called upon to help aboard the WEB SLINGER vehicle to destroy the Spider-Bots racing through the factory.

Guests will be able to fully channel their inner Spider-Man thanks to new features specifically designed for the attraction, such as technology that recognizes body movements and gestures.

“You actually get to sling webs just like Spider-Man,” Walt Disney Imagineering Executive Creative Director Brent Strong told “GMA” in an interview last March when news of the Avengers Campus was released. “We can render a virtual web coming right out of the palm of your hand, right out of your virtual web shooters, and into a virtual world. It’s a lot less painful than being bitten by a radioactive spider, but you actually get to have all of those amazing powers.”

Guests will also be able to know what their score is to know how well they did individually and as part of a team.

“It’s the most I’ve ever felt like Spider-Man,” Holland added. “Everybody is going to get to share that experience, which is so awesome.”

WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure is one of three rides that will be on the Avengers Campus, which will be located in Disney’s California Adventure theme park in Anaheim, California.

“It’s about living out your superhero fantasies,” said Strong about the Avengers Campus. “Not just bring it to life -- where you get to see your favorite heroes or you get to meet your favorite heroes -- but you actually get to become a hero.”

The new land was scheduled to open in July 2020, but because of the coronavirus pandemic, that date is still to be determined.
