'Dear GMA': Submission Guidelines

Read these rules and guidelines before entering "GMA's" Advice Guru search.

— -- All applicants should be eligible to work in the United States. By applying for the "GMA Advice Guru" position, you represent that you are not subject to any contractual restrictions on your ability to work for American Broadcasting Companies, Inc. ("ABC"), including but not limited to a non-compete from another employer, from the time of application through the acceptance of an employment offer. The Walt Disney Company, and its subsidiary and affiliated companies, including ABC, are equal opportunity employers.

To apply on-line, go to www.abcnews.com/gma and follow the instructions on how to submit your essay and answers to the questions ("essay package"). ABC is not responsible for failed, partial, delayed or garbled computer transmissions, or for technical failures of any kind in connection with submissions or the submission process, including but not limited to electronic malfunction or damage of any network, hardware or software. Submissions must be received by October 15, 2010 at Midnight ET.

By submitting to this process, you are agreeing to be a part of the "GMA Advice Guru" search process. Should you be chosen to go to the next round (in which case ABC expects to contact you within a week after October 15th), that process is expected to consist of – but may not be limited to – giving on-camera video responses to specific questions posed by ABC, which become the property of ABC, as described more fully below.

Should you become a finalist for the position (there will be approximately 10 finalists, though ABC reserves the right to increase or decrease that total), your application for the "GMA Advice Guru" position and your participation in this process will be made public on Good Morning America and on the ABCNews.com website in early November. Prior to and/or after becoming a finalist, you will be required to submit an employment application, go through a formal interview process, and be subject to a satisfactory check of references and completion and review of any other hiring prerequisites, including but not limited to a criminal background check. You also may be required to appear online and on-air in the capacity as a GMA Advice Guru "finalist," asked to answer questions on-camera to be posted online or on the ABC Television Network, and/or participate in other on-air or online activities as part of this process. Additional processes also may be added at ABC's sole discretion. Failure to comply with any required step at any stage in the process may result in the rejection of your application, at ABC's sole discretion.

Your essay package, on-camera video responses, and all other materials requested or provided throughout the job search process become the property of ABC, may be used in any manner, and will not be acknowledged or returned. By submitting an application (or any portion thereof), you agree to release ABC, its parent, subsidiary, affiliated and successor companies, advertising and promotion agencies and each of their respective officers, directors, agents, representatives and employees, as well as each of their respective successors, representatives and assigns (collectively, the "Released Parties") from any and all actions, claims, injury, loss or damage arising in any manner, directly or indirectly, from your application or participation in the "GMA Advice Guru" search process.

You also authorize the Released Parties to use your name, voice, likeness, biographical data, city and state of residence, essay package, on-camera video responses, and all other materials requested or provided throughout the job search process in programming or promotional material, in any media now known or hereafter created or conceived, worldwide in perpetuity, without further compensation unless prohibited by law or otherwise required in accordance with an applicable collective bargaining agreement to which ABC is signatory. ABC is in no way obligated to use any of the above mentioned information or materials, but may do so and may edit such information or materials, at its sole discretion, without further obligation or compensation.

By submitting materials, you further certify that such materials are original and created by you, that you have the necessary rights, permission and authority to submit such materials, and, if applicable, that you maintain a valid copyright in the materials. You also acknowledge that such materials may be included and/or discussed in a broadcast, that such discussion may include statements or opinions by the broadcast talent or others about you, your appearance and/or the materials, and that those statements and opinions may be considered surprising, embarrassing, defamatory or otherwise offensive or injurious to you. You agree to release the Released Parties from any actions, claims, injury, loss or damage allegedly caused, directly or indirectly, by any such statements or opinions made during a broadcast or online. You also acknowledge that ABC may require you to sign certain documents and/or agreements as a condition of your continued participation in the "GMA Advice Guru" search process. You understand that if you refuse to sign any further agreements, releases, authorizations or waivers as are required by ABC, your application may be rejected, at ABC's sole discretion.

ABC may add additional or modified guidelines or criteria as it goes forward with this search, which will be posted here.
