The Chanler at the Cliff Walk
Step into the romance of an Edith Wharton novel with a stay at this resorted Newport mansion perched above the Cliff Walk, an oceanside pathway that winds among the historic homes. The pretty gardens have beautiful sea views, as do most of the guest rooms. Each is individually appointed in varying periods, most have decadent baths, which butlers draw on request. The Spiced Pear restaurant offers local New England specialties such as lobster and scallops.
Paws UpIf you get your highs from hiking but think massages are the coolest too, you'll love glamping. The concept marries glam, luxury accommodations and amenities with active adventures. One of our favorites is Paws Up in Montana, which offers a host of camps and lodges. The new Moonlight Camp is adults-only area where six-tents sit under the shade of towering pine trees. Stay here and you'll be closer to the glampiest canvas-sided spot around—the Spa Tent. The riverside property offers all manner of activities including kayaking, fly fishing, hiking, horseback riding and hot-air ballooning.
The Four Seasons Los Angeles at Beverly Hills
Live out your Silver Screen fantasies with a stay at this grande dame. The Rodeo Drive adjacent hideaway offers all the pampering for which the Four Seasons brand in known the privacy of a residential enclave. Rooms offer city views, ultra plush bedding and deep soaking tubs. The Culina restaurant has an A-List menu and clientele.
Monmouth Plantation
Natchez Mississippi, on the banks of the great river, was never involved in the Civil War, so it has more buildings on the historic register than any other place in the United States. Antebellum homes have been refashioned into guesthouses offering Southern hospitality and cooking. One such spot is the 30-room Monmouth Plantation circa 1818. Locally sourced antiques and a top-secret mint julep recipe are accompanied by modern conveniences like WiFi.

Located just two hours from Minneapolis and six from Chicago, this country retreat in Wisconsin is a cozy getaway for those who are short on time.
