Five Last-Minute Destination Vacation Deals

Five last-minute destination vacation deals.

Dec. 14, 2010 — -- Need a holiday getaway? Think it's too late to book a great trip?

Think again!

Travel expert Heidi Mitchell dropped by "Good Morning America" today to discuss five last-minute destination vacation deals.

For Snow Lovers

The Sebastian, a new hotel in Vail, Colo., is offering a terrific deal, Mitchell said. Those who book the hotel's three-night package will get free massages and free lift tickets for the duration of the stay.

The hotel's three-night packages start at $199.50 per person per night and must be booked 10 days in advance.

Want Snow, Won't Travel

If you are on the East Coast and don't want to put yourself through the hassle of flying, The Equinox Resort and Spa in Manchester Village, Vt., may be your destination. The resort is right by Bromley Mountain, and offers stays for $269 per night. You'll get lift tickets that would normally cost $69 for free.

Skiers usually travel with lots of luggage, but Mitchell pointed out that there were ways to avoid bag fees that many airlines levy. Some credit cards, like American Express Platinum, are waiving bag fees by giving travelers a $200 credit per year. Check with your credit card carrier online.

Relax at the Spa

If you want a luxurious vacation but also want to take off a few pounds while you're there, Mitchell said you might want to think about the Miraval in Tucson, Ariz. The spa is offering its "Pretty and Prep for the Holidays" package through the end of February.

A minimum three-night, all-inclusive stay starts from $1,275 per person. That includes a $130 resort credit that can be used each night per person for spa treatments and other activities, Mitchell said.

The Romantic Getaway

The Mohonk Mountain House is offering a mid-week winter getaway deal through the end of March. It costs $165 per person, per night, and that includes a four-course dinner, breakfast, and lots of activities – such as fitness classes, ice skating, yoga, cross-country skiing and swimming in a heated pool. The getaway is all-inclusive and the venue looks like a Bavarian castle.

Dreaming of a Warm Christmas

If you don't need a white Christmas and prefer a tropical getaway, Mitchell said Acapulco was regaining its reputation as a top Mexican resort city.

The Hotel Boca Chica is retro chic, and at only $95 a night, it's a great bargain, she added.

Travelers can fly nonstop from Houston and New York to Acapulco and those who book through April 2 will get 10 percent discount on a two-night stay; 15 percent off of a three-night stay; 20 percent off of a four-night stay those who stay for five nights will get 25 percent off, she added.

The packages include breakfast.

Other Tips

Before you book your hotel, double-check that a flight is available to your destination, Mitchell said. You can also bundle your flight and hotel for greater savings.

If you book your flight on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning, you'll usually get a better fare, Mitchell said, explaining that airlines usually change prices on Tuesday nights and offer online deals on Wednesdays.

If you book a trip at the last second, Mitchell said you can still try to book online. You may have 24 hours to cancel without a fee if something goes wrong and you can't make it, she added.
