Sarah Jessica Parker on 'Sex and the City'
N E W Y O R K, July 18, 2002 -- Carrie Bradshaw, the sassy leader of the pack on HBO's Sex and the City, is single again and ready to party, but her real-life alter ego couldn't be more settled.
While Sarah Jessica Parker anticipates the birth of her first child this fall, audiences are getting ready to watch the debut episode in Sex and the City's fifth season this Sunday.
Parker's pregnancy, which was announced in April, delayed and shortened the season. But despite the rumors, Parker, 37, says she and the show's writers never even considered writing her pregnancy into the show.
Emmy nominations were announced this morning, and Parker is up for best actress in a comedy. She won the award last year.
Last Man Standing?
As the new season kicks off, Carrie has shed fiancé Aidan (John Corbett), and doesn't seem likely to find lasting love any time soon.
"Carrie, we think, will be the last man standing," Parker said on ABCNEWS' Good Morning America. "She will probably be alone, we suspect."
Carrie ditched Aidan at the end of last season. This season, says Parker, Carrie is more aware of her age and how the decisions she made have shaped her life.
"I like the idea that she's very aware of age and what should be more appropriate," Parker said. "It's a conflict to want to be this single woman in Manhattan, but also to have things that are meaningful and substantial in her life."
The characters on the show are more aware of age this season, but that doesn't stop some from baring it all.
In one episode, it seems as if Miranda's breasts make an amazing appearance — but actress Cynthia Nixon is actually wearing prosthetics.
Samantha (Kim Cattrall) appeared completely nude last season. There's no word on whether she'll shock fans again in any of the coming season's eight episodes. Carrie, on other hand, has always been barely covered up in her sexy mini-dresses and half-shirts. Paker says she has never appeared nude in any role during her career.
"I just said no," she said. "What I like about the idea of the women on our show, the cast, is that they do it when and if they feel comfortable and only if they do."
Parker's husband, actor Matthew Broderick, is currently shooting The Music Man in Canada. He told ABCNEWS he thinks his wife of five years has been blooming during her pregnancy.
"She has a little teeny bit of weight because of being pregnant, it looks good on her," Broderick said. "She looks great — glowing."
