Babymoon Getaways for Expecting Parents
Feb. 18, 2006 -- If you or your wife is pregnant, you might have a romantic vacation in your future.
Getting in one last jaunt for two before baby makes three has become a hot trend among expecting couples. It's been called a "babymoon."
Like a honeymoon, a babymoon gives a couple the chance to focus on each other and reconnect. Travel and Leisure magazine's senior editor Heidi Mitchell joined "Good Morning America Weekend Edition" to talk about some of the best babymoon packages that hotels are offering.
"Baby Me" Package at the W Hotel in New York City, $359 a night
This package includes three items from the "Womb Service" menu, a list of stores that pregnant moms will enjoy visiting and a subscription to American Baby magazine. Moms also will be welcomed with a fashionable baby bag filled with goodies such as a baby onesie, a "Hot Mama" book for a stylish pregnancy, spa products and a postcard to send to the hotel after the baby is born. If you send it in, they'll send you a special bib from the W.
"Last Hurrah" Package at the St. Regis Hotel in Monarch, Calif., $735 a night
Couples will love this luxurious hotel with its Pacific Ocean views. This package includes a massage for the mom- and dad-to-be and a special selection of baby-themed DVDs (think "Baby Boom") to watch in the room. For late-night appetites, the hotel has created a special "cravings menu" with items such as fried chicken and french fries.
"Pregnancy Pampering" Packaging at The Chanler in Newport, R.I., $800 a night
Forget a lame mint on your pillow: The Chanler gives expecting couples pickles and Haagen Dazs ice cream at turndown. They'll provide you with a car and driver so you can take an organized shopping tour of local maternity shops. When you return to the hotel, you can watch a pregnancy movie of your choice -- such as "She's Having a Baby" -- while you snack on the hotel's special truffle popcorn.
"Babymoon" package at Las Ventanas al Paraiso in Los Cabos, Mexico, four-night packages start at $4,450
Las Ventanas, a perennial celebrity favorite, has a director of romance to help with arrangements. The babymoon package includes a silver baby spoon and fork set, plus the following services from its exceptional spa -- a "mommy beautiful" massage, a manicure and a personal pre-natal fitness session.
