Hot Looks for Prom

April 24, 2006 — -- It's that time of year again when high school girls have a chance to live out their Cinderella fantasies at the prom.

With the limo, the hair, the jewelry, and, of course, the dress, teens -- and their parents -- are spending more and more on the prom.

Atoosa Rubenstein, Seventeen magazine's editor in chief, came to "Good Morning America" to show us how girls can be the belle of the ball, without breaking the bank.

The Girly Girl

"This dress is for the girl who wants to look like a princess on prom night," Rubenstein said. "It's a pretty traditional style, but the length -- called ballerina -- hits right above your ankle, so it feels a little more modern than a standard, to-the-floor ball gown. With this proportion, make sure to wear sexy heels because so much attention is drawn to your ankles and feet."

The Wild Girl

"One of the hottest dress shapes right now is short and poufy," Rubenstein said. "This kind of feels like something Madonna would have worn circa 'Like a Virgin' -- complete with black lace, drop waist and fluffy crinoline underneath. Don't be afraid to layer fun accessories to a dress like this. We added a studded belt and bag. They give a unique, rocker edge to this look."

The Retro Girl

"Here's another cute short dress, but this one has a more '50s, vintage-inspired vibe," Rubenstein said. "It has a higher, nipped-in waist and swingy full skirt. Accessories like a pink headband and cute clutch add a pop of color and complete the retro look."

The Glam Girl

"For a real 'red-carpet moment,' go for a beaded column dress," Rubenstein said. "Girls look to their favorite celebrities for style ideas, and this slinky yet sophisticated dress reminds us of something Beyonce might wear on the red carpet. One thing to keep in mind: Make sure to keep accessories sleek and subtle because this is such a statement-making dress."
