The Playboy or Private Prince?
Aug 14, 2006 -- By many counts, he's the perfect catch.
As a royal bachelor with an impressive list of achievements and a desire to change the world, Prince Albert of Monaco is an international heartthrob, and it's little wonder why.
The son of American film star Grace Kelly and Prince Rainier III of Monaco, Albert took the reins following his father's death in 2005.
Before assuming control, the young monarch enjoyed a varied and inspiring youth, studying at Amherst College in Massachusetts, serving as a second lieutenant in the French navy, and competing in several Olympics.
Trumping his personal achievements, however, the prince has dedicated himself to many humanitarian causes, including the Princess Grace Foundation, which assists struggling artists.
"We have been able to help more than 300 artists over the last 22 years," he told "Good Morning America's Weekend Edition" Ron Claiborne.
"I think she'd be happy about this and be very proud. She recognized the urgency and the need for young artists."
It's the prince's other exploits that have the media, and his fans, talking.
Following Rainier's death, Albert announced the birth of his out-of-wedlock son, Alexandre, to a French flight attendant.
Albert quickly declared his intention to care for the child and confirmed the child's right to the royal inheritance.
The revelations soon had speculators talking once again. When would the prince finally get hitched?
"I have no plans in the near or distant future," he said.
"Any time I am seen with [a] pretty young woman by my side, everybody flashes the 'M' word, and it becomes very difficult to have a relationship with someone."
You have to wonder, though, whether the bachelor with the big heart can remain single for much longer.
