'Plastic Surgery' for Clooney, Long Hair for Pitt, Spandex for All

May 23, 2007 — -- Snagging major stars away from the A-list parties and red carpet fanfare of the Cannes Film Festival is no easy feat.

But "Good Morning America" was able to corral the cast of "Oceans 13" -- including George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Don Cheadle and producer Jerry Weintraub -- to talk about their much-anticipated summer movie and a cause close to their hearts.

The group announced that it had raised $9.2 million Tuesday night to help repair Darfur as part of the Not on Our Watch project.

"We had a big night last night," Clooney told ABC's Diane Sawyer. "We raised a lot of money. The big surprise for us was Steven Spielberg donated $1 million last night. That really kicked us over the top."

Clooney and fellow "Oceans" star Cheadle have been heavily involved in projects to save Darfur. Clooney has gone before the United Nations to ask for more peacekeeping forces in the region; Cheadle has testified before subcommittees.

"The $9 million is for the refugee camps," Clooney said. "And we want to immediately effect change and help people survive through the next months."

Joking About Old Rumors, Starting New Ones

The crew is in Cannes to promote the third installment of the "Oceans" series. The movie follows the con men as they try to bankrupt a Las Vegas casino in a record amount of time while escaping its owner, played by Al Pacino.

The actors don various disguises throughout the movie. With long, greasy hair and a scraggly beard, Pitt's character, Sawyer said, makes him look a bit like Garth from the "Wayne's World" sketch on "Saturday Night Live."

"I'm feeling a little older these days. I was trying to relive the glory days of 'Legends of the Fall.' I think I failed miserably," Pitt joked.

In "Oceans 13," Pitt stays on the sidelines while Damon's character vies for the attentions of a much-desired woman, played by Ellen Barkin.

"These guys are heading into their golden years. So it was really down to me," Damon said. "And the girl in this case is Ellen Barkin. So we're really lucky to have her. She's another addition to this one, and she's just fantastic."

On the subject of golden years, rumors about Clooney getting eye surgery have swirled all over Europe. Though he didn't deny it, his quips suggested he's not the plastic surgery type.

"It doesn't show on film. You really cannot tell unless you come close," he said as the camera zoomed into his eyes.

"And he only had one eye done," Cheadle said.

"I figured I wanted to try it first," Clooney joked. "Give it a test run."

After clowning around on camera, the actors said they were headed to the beach. Asked if they would don spandex and sprawl out in the sand, the "Oceans" men offered an enthusiastic if tongue-in-cheek "yes," adding that they were "heading down there now, as soon as this interview is over."
