Woman Nine Months Pregnant Disappears From Home
Jessie Marie Davis was days away from giving birth when she disappeared.
June 18, 2007 -- For the family of 26-year-old Jessie Marie Davis, the past few days have been agonizing.
Davis, a single mom raising a 2-year-old son, was days away from giving birth to a baby girl. Last week, she vanished under mysterious circumstances.
"There's a hole there," said Whitney Davis, Davis' sister, "and it just hurts my heart because I mean she's the one you look up to. She's your big sister and she's such a strong person."
When Davis' mother stopped by her house Friday to check up on her, she found Davis' son, Blake, home alone. He was soiled, hungry and repeated strange phrases like, "Mommy's in the rug" and "Mommy broke the table."
"I don't know what could have happened to her," said Patty Porter, Davis' mother.
Police said Davis' comforter and sheets were missing from the bedroom along with her cell phone. They also found bleach poured on the floor.
"Jessie's vehicle was still there. Her purse is still there," said Sgt. Terry Curry, of the Stark County Sheriff's Office in Ohio.
Police have questioned the father of Davis' unborn child, a married police officer, who is also Blake's father. They said that he was now separated from his wife and that his wife knew Davis was having his baby.
Meanwhile, volunteers spent the weekend searching for Davis. Her family members said they hadn't slept for days.
"She would have never left Blake," Whitney said. "She was an amazing mother."
And Davis' family holds out hope she'll be found in time for the arrival of the baby girl she'd already named Chloe.
"She had made a list of stuff," Porter said. "Her suitcase was packed and clothes for Chloe to bring her home and her Bible was there that she had been reading."
