Jan. 28, 2008 -- In the past being older than 50 guaranteed over-the-hill jokes, wrinkles and the sinking feeling that life was all downhill from there. But for today's older crowd, aging has never looked or felt so good.
Thadette Nelson, a legal secretary in Monroe Township, N.J., and Carole Defore, a commerical real estate agent in Encino, Calif., personify the new look of people older than 50 and are among the people AARP The Magazine chose as its "Faces of 50+."
The contest sought out people who make middle age look fabulous.
Even "Good Morning America" viewers couldn't correctly guess the ladies' ages.
In fact, of the online ballots cast, 1,344 people thought Nelson was 53 years old. She's actually 61.
"I try to keep my skin as clear as possible. I eat the right foods. I don't smoke. I drink very little," said Nelson, whose passions include decorating, theater, dancing, cooking and reading.
Many people correctly guessed Defore's age, but 1,759 viewers thought she was younger than her 63 years.
The ladies prove age really is nothing but a number.
