Breaking Up? Here's Where to Dine and Dump
A dining guide provides the perfect places for ending a relationship.
Feb. 5, 2009 -- Are you looking for the perfect placed to dump your no-longer-oved one? Breaking up is hard to do, but now Zagat has created a guide to the best places to dump your date.
It's part of the new "Dating (and Dumping) Guide" that the popular restaurant review publication recently released in Los Angeles and New York City.
You can eat great food and still make a great escape.
"From 'be mine' to 'let's just be friends,' selecting the right place for a date makes all the difference," the guide's description says.
Zagat, the encyclopedia of customer restaurant reviews, not only tells you where in New York and Los Angeles to eat and break up, but also tells readers about dating deal breakers and pick-up do's.
Pomodoro, on New York's Upper West Side, is listed as the best place to break up.
The restaurant was immortalized in the sitcom "Seinfeld" after an episode in which Jerry Seinfeld proclaimed "Everyone goes to Pomodoro to break up."
Pomodoro's owner, Peter Coundouris, told ABC News, "Some people might feel comfortable to let someone down easy in a place that is a casual neighborhood restaurant where they know where a major scene is not going to happen."
For guys, a good break-up restaurant could be Brother Jimmy's, a barbecue joint where the waitresses are hot so you "might find a replacement girlfriend before you go home," according to Zagat.
For ladies, Zagat suggests a loud, kid-friendly spot might be the ticket, then "keep talking about how much you want children and how soon."
As your ex runs for the door, he might believe the breakup was his idea.
But restaurants are not the only places to end a relationship. You could try a train station if you don't want to get into a long conversation about it.
Something like "It's not you. It's me. ... I have a train to catch," might work.
