Lohan Dating Video May Rehab Image

Poking fun at herself could be a good career move for troubled actress.

April 15, 2009 — -- Lindsay Lohan is no stranger to the spotlight, and it hasn't always been flattering. Now, the actress is poking fun at herself in a new online video that's getting laughs and might just help Lohan get her career back on track.

After a public breakup with girlfriend Samantha Ronson and accusations of late-night partying, the 23-year-old parodies the commercials aired by the dating Web site eHarmony in a two-minute video posted on funnyordie.com.

"Hi, my name is Lindsay and I'm searching for love. I'm recently single, tentatively, I think. And I'm looking for someone I can spend the rest of my life with. Or at least the rest of my probation with. A little bit about me. I'm an actress, a singer, an entrepreneur and I have single-handedly kept 90 percent of all gossip Web sites in business," Lohan says, mocking her years of bad press.

"I would describe my personality as creative. I'm a bit of a night owl. ... I'm a workaholic, a shopaholic and, according to the state of California, an alcoholic."

The hard-partying Lohan was arrested twice in 2007 for driving under the influence and did three stints in rehab.

Celebrity watchers say the video couldn't have come at a better time for a young star who once lit up the screen with hits such as "Freaky Friday" and "Mean Girls," but lately has seen her star fade.

"She is poking fun at herself and saying, 'I know what the world is saying about me, I am going to say it before you think it.' It really shows she is ready to move on," Dina Sansing of US Weekly said.

Publicist and image consultant Michael Levine, however, says Lohan's turn at humor may also be a turning point.

"By invoking something like this humor video, I think she has done a very good job at reshaping the momentum of her image, at least giving herself a brand new start," he said.

Celebs' Image Rehabs

She is not the first celebrity to use comedy this way.

In the fall, socialite and reality TV star Paris Hilton used the same Web site to respond to a John McCain campaign ad.

"That wrinkly, white-haired guy used me in his campaign ... which I guess means I am running for president," Hilton says in the video.

Actor Hugh Grant, after being arresting for picking up a prostitute in 1994, revitalized his career with an appearance on "The Tonight Show."

For Lohan, the comedic move may already by working. On Twitter, one person wrote, "Lin-Sanity." Another wrote, "This is the best work she's ever done."

Sansing of US Weekly said, "In some sense, it is a great career move. It's almost like an audition tape for these people who could be hiring her. She is saying, 'Look at me, I am not as crazy as everyone is saying, I am actually quite together.'"

As Lohan says in the video, "So if you think you can handle a redhead with a little bit of sass and, by that, I mean a redhead that's ... crazy. ... I mean, don't pretend you don't know me, we've all read about it."
