'Bachelor' Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney Will 'Absolutely Someday' Get Married

July 2, 2009— -- "The Bachelor" star Jason Mesnick and his girlfriend Molly Malaney are still together, nearly five months after Mesnick reunited with Malaney, the woman who was initially his second choice.

Mesnick and Malaney stopped by "Good Morning Amerca" for their first joint interview since "The Bachelor: After the Final Rose" and said they plan to spend the rest of their lives together.

Mesnick said "things are going great" and they will "absolutely someday" get married.

Mesnick and Malaney, a department store buyer from Milwaukee, were recently spotted on vacation together in the Turks and Caicos islands with Mesnick's son, and while they aren't currently living together, she plans to move to his hometown of Seattle.

"We're very happy," Malaney said. "We're doing the distance thing right now."

She also said "it's been great," getting to know Mesnick's son Ty. "We talk on the phone, we play together when I'm in town."

Mesnick's new project was inspired by his son, who he said is "way cooler than I am." His Web site Jason's Place, is an online community for single parents.

Melissa Rycroft, whom Mesnick proposed to on "The Bachelor," but called it off on the "After the Final Rose" special, announced this week that she is engaged to boyfriend Ty Strickland.

Mesnick said he hadn't had much contact with Rycroft since the show ended.

'The Bachelor' Bombshell

The last season of "The Bachelor" captivated millions of viewers with its passion, its drama and its endless tears.

For Mesnick, choosing Rycroft in the finale was a heart-wrenching decision.

"How could I be sitting here this hurt?" he asked on the show shortly before proposing. "Today is supposed to be the best day of my life."

For Rycroft, the fairy tale ending lasted only six weeks. "Bachelor" viewers were shocked when Mesnick told Rycroft on the "After the Final Rose" special that the two weren't right for each other.

Minutes later, he said he was still in love with Malaney and asked her for a second chance.

"I haven't been able to stop thinking about you," he said. "My heart hasn't let go."

"This is something I dreamt of but never expected to hear. My feelings never changed for you," a stunned Malaney replied. "To hear you say this, of course, I'm so excited about it. There's a piece of me that's confused.

"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't glad this happened," she added.

Chris Harrison, the host of "The Bachelor," told "Good Morning America" in March that Malaney did not know Mesnick was going to profess his love for her.

"Molly kept looking at me to wonder if this was real. She thought -- she really couldn't assimilate what was going on, and that speaks to the fact she had no idea when she walked on that stage what was going to happen," Harrison said.

Mesnick was criticized for his decision by outspoken fans.

"I feel terrible for [Rycroft], how she, you know, thought that she would be engaged once in her life -- and he took that away from her," one fan said. "That's just devastating."

But Mesnick said he had to follow his heart and told "GMA" that "we've got to leave all that in the past now."

Rycroft, 26, went on to appear on "Dancing With the Stars" and is currently a special contributor for "Good Morning America."

'The Bachelor': A History of Changed Minds

The drama that unfolded around Mesnick wasn't new. He appeared on "The Bachelorette" during the 2008 season as a contestant vying for the attentions of bachelorette DeAnna Pappas. He made it to the final two.

Pappas would later claim that she, too, had made a mistake in choosing professional snowboarder Jesse Csincsak over Mesnick during the season 4 finale.

And during the 2007 season of "The Bachelor," Brad Womack didn't choose either of his two finalists during his final rose ceremony.

In fact, in all the incarnations of the show, only one couple has made it down the aisle. Trista Rehn, who came in second on the first season of "The Bachelor" and was the original "Bachelorette," married her pick, Ryan Sutter.

Today, the couple has two children.

Happy endings would also seem to be in store for Mesnick, Malaney and Rycroft.

"Everything works out the way it should," Rycroft said, when announcing her engagement.

Mesnick said "fate has taken us all to a unique place right now."
