Troy Polamalu's Prized Locks Under Attack: Is It a Real Prank or Staged Viral Video?
Steelers' hairdo has made him one of NFL's the most recognizable athletes.
July 22, 2011 -- Troy Polamalu is a force to reckon with on the Steelers' defense, but it's his luscious locks that put him on the mainstream map and made him one of the most recognizable athletes in the NFL.
In a video making the rounds online, someone approaches Polamalu from behind with an electric razor, and buzzes off a chunk of his prized locks, which he had insured for $1 million last year. The question of the day: Was it a real prank or was it staged?
Polamalu has not cut his hair since 2000 and says he keeps it long as a tribute to his Samoan ancestors. His black mane, which flows out of his helmet during games, landed him an endorsement deal with Head & Shoulders.
