Can My Child With Atopic Dermatitis (Eczema) Swim In A Chlorinated Pool?
Dr. Boguniewicz answers the question: 'Chlorinated Pools And Eczema?'
-- Question: Can my child with atopic dermatitis (eczema) swim in a chlorinated pool?
Answer: We think that it's very important children with atopic dermatitis be allowed to participate in normal child activities, and certainly swimming is one of them.
Chlorine as a chemical can be drying and irritating to the skin of our children with atopic dermatitis.
So it's important to remember that, after swimming, these children should take a bath or shower and use a gentle cleanser to help remove the chemical. And this should then be followed by applying an appropriate moisturizer to the skin.
