Should My Child Be Kept On Chronic Antibiotics For Recurrent Skin Infections?
Dr. Mark Boguniewicz answers the question: 'Using Soap With Eczema?'
-- Question: Can I use soap on my child with atopic dermatitis (eczema)?
Answer: In general, we don't like to use soaps in children with atopic dermatitis. However, soap is very different than cleanser. So we do use gentle cleansers, typically formulations that say that they're made for sensitive skin. And there are a number of them that are tolerated by our patients. These can help with the bacterial colonization, and so parents should feel comfortable having one that can be used when needed that won't lead to any irritation of their child's dermatitis.
