Answer: There are several different substances that we can be allergic to. These are typically proteins in our environment, or things that we ingest. These categories can include foods -- and food allergens such as peanut allergy or milk allergy, they can include venoms or insect sting allergies such as fire ant, honey bee, or wasp.
It can also be inhalant allergens such as animal danders like dogs or cats, horses, or pollens that are common in our environment. Other types of inhalants are dust mite, cockroach, and molds. Other types of things, such as medications and substances that we may come in contact with, such as penicillins or latex, can also be allergies. This makes it very challenging for an allergic patient oftentimes to live in our world.
