In What Ways Is Alternative Medicine Different From Conventional Medicine Treatment?

Dr. David Rakel answers the question: 'Alternative Differs How From The Norm?'

Jan. 13, 2010 -- Question: In what ways is alternative medicine different from conventional medicine treatment?

Answer:Alternative medicine is different from conventional medicine in that it incorporates some things that we weren't taught in medical school. It's kind of funny to realize that nutrition and spirituality were considered alternative medicine. Now we're realizing that those are just basic aspects of being healthy that every human being needs to really facilitate those mechanisms. So we're starting to see more of a blend between conventional and alternative where we're allowing the science to tell us what works and what doesn't. So hopefully those terms won't be needed because all they really do is separate people where we really want to use health and healing to bring people together.
