What Considerations Go Into Deciding Whether Treatment For An Anxiety Disorder Should Occur In A Hospital?
Dr. Maizes answers the question: 'Hospitalization For Anxiety Disorders?'
-- Question: What considerations go into deciding whether treatment for an anxiety disorder should occur in a hospital or on an outpatient basis?
Answer: The vast majority of anxiety disorder problems are treated on an outpatient basis. It would be extremely rare to hospitalize somebody for a problem with anxiety. Of course, occasionally the anxiety shows up as overwhelming chest pain, and palpitations and other kinds of physical symptoms that have to be evaluated in an inpatient setting. But the treatment itself of an anxiety disorder is almost always outpatient.
