Dec. 29, 2008 -- Question: What are some of the complications associated with chickenpox, and who might be at risk?
Answer: Some of the potential complications from chickenpox include severe infection of the lung or pneumonia, infection of the brain or encephalitis, liver dysfunction, or infection of the rash itself. Individuals particularly at risk for these complications include adults or adolescents, some pregnant women, premature infants or individuals with a weakened immune system, such as individuals taking certain medications, have HIV or are taking, or are under treatment for cancer.
