Does Long-Term Antidepressant Use Cause Any Known Problems?
Dr. Anthony Rothschild answers the question: 'Long-Term Antidepressant Use?'
-- Question: Does long-term antidepressant use cause any known problems?
Answer: Long-term antidepressant use does not cause any long-term problems. Sometimes, unfortunately, the antidepressant medications will stop working and are no longer effective or as effective as they had been earlier for the treatment of the depression.
But it's highly unlikely that any new side effects will occur later on in treatment. Now, it is certainly possible that somebody may have a side effect from an antidepressant when they first get started that doesn't go away, but it's not as if a new side effect is going to start later on in the treatment when somebody didn't have it in the beginning.
