Answer: Coronary artery disease is not very common in children. It's actually fairly uncommon. It usually is the result of a birth defect of the coronary arteries, or can be the result of an infection, or we think it's an infection called Kawasaki's disease.
The type of coronary artery disease that affects adults and causes heart attacks and other problems may actually begin in childhood, but ultimately has its first clinical manifestation in the adult.
