What Is Breast Conservation Surgery?
Dr. Harry Bear answers the question: What Is Breast Conservation Surgery?
-- Question: What is breast conservation surgery?
Answer: Breast conservation surgery, quite simply is treatment of a breast cancer without the loss of the breast. Any treatment that does not involve removal of the breast, or mastectomy, would be considered breast conservation treatment. In general, this means a lumpectomy or a partial mastectomy and most often this is followed by radiation treatment to the breast, usually with a very good to excellent cosmetic result that doesn't look much different from a patient who has had a biopsy.
