Forget Chocolate Rabbits: Microbiologists Celebrate Easter With Bacteria Bunny

Skilled microbiologists created the bacterial artwork.

— -- Forget the plastic eggs and chocolate Easter bunnies, the American Society of Microbiologists are celebrating Easter with a substance near and dear to them: bacteria.

The society posted a picture of an Easter bunny complete with eyes, nose and ears in a petri dish. This bunny isn't exactly furry, it's made up of rod-shaped bacteria called Bacillus.

This is not the first time the scientists have gotten artistic.

Last year, a few creative microbiologists recreated Van Gogh's "Starry Night" in five petri dishes.
