Lipton Debunks 'Worms' in Tea in Viral Video as Lemon Pieces
The alleged "worms" in tea are lemon pieces, company said.
-- Lipton Tea is fighting back against a bizarre viral video that purported to show "worms" in its Lemon Green Tea bags.
In the video that has gone viral, Facebook user Ismat Raza opened the tea bags and found the small pieces in the Lemon Green Tea bags.
"There are worms inside, living worms and it is not one or two, you can see a lot of," them, she says in the video.
The company posted its own video on Facebook on Tuesday with an explanation.
"There are no 'worms' in our tea bags," the company said. "These are small lemon flavor pieces which have been mistaken for worms."
The company pointed out and demonstrated in the video that the lemon pieces dissolve in hot water. Lipton also provided a phone number and email address for anyone with a question.
"The tea is of the highest quality standard and is absolutely safe to consume," the company said.
Raza did not immediately respond to a request from ABC News via Facebook for comment.
