Are You Eating Safe? How to Find Out
Where to find information on making sure your food is safe.
July 5, 2009 -- Eating right is hard enough, but with all the recent food recalls it seems eating safely is getting harder and harder.
But there is help available, if you know where to look.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has a huge repository of information on food safety.
They arrange the info in the form of an FAQ, with a big list of reputable external links at the bottom of the page:
The Food and Drug Administration also has a wealth of information on foodborne illness.
Among the information on the FDA Web site is what it calls the Bad Bug Book, which is basically a handbook of nasty foodborne bugs.
The National Institutes of Health also has a fantastic primer on foodborne illness -- essentially a consumer-level FAQ with some good answers:
