Prince William and Kate Middleton: Will Their Wedding Break Records?
April 5, 2011 -- Many world records relate to weddings -- from the most expensive slice of wedding cake, the most crystals on a wedding dress, the longest wedding dress train -- and some have been broken. But what Guinness World Record could Kate Middleton and Prince William's wedding break?
Here are some record holders provided by the Guinness World Records.
Kate and Will could beat the record for the largest TV audience for a wedding, which was set in 1981 at the royal wedding of Prince William's parents, Prince Charles and Lady Diana. An estimated 750 million people in 74 countries tuned in to see Charles and Diana say their "I do's."
That record might not just be broken but could be smashed, since reports estimate approximately 2 billion people are expected to watch Will and Kate exchange vows April 29.
Are Will and Kate a clickable couple? Khloe Kardashian and Lamar Odom currently hold the title for most searched-for celebrity wedding online. The reality show couple tied the knot less than two years ago at a private residence. The search for their wedding ranked the highest on the Google Zeitgeist list of celebrity weddings.
We learned that Fiona Cairns will be making a multi-tiered fruit cake for the couple's nuptials. While the flavor has been revealed, we don't know anything about the size. Perhaps the royal baker could be aiming to break the record for the world's largest wedding cake?
To crush this record, Cairns would have to bake something that weighed more than 15,032 pounds. The record-setting cake was unveiled at the Mohegan Sun Hotel and Casino during the 2004 New England Bridal Showcase.
The Mohegan Sun cake could feed up to 59,000 people and included 10,000 pounds of cake batter and 4,810 pounds of frosting. It even took two fork lifts to hoist each tier.
