Baby Survives Shooting in Parents' Suicide Pact

March 2, 2010 -- In Argentina, a baby girl miraculously remained alive for three days with a bullet in her chest after surviving her parents' suicide pact.

The 7-month-old was found, covered in blood, bedside the bodies of her parents and her two year-old brother. The baby was discovered by paramedics and rushed to the hospital after police received calls from neighbors who noticed the smell of the bodies coming from the house three days after the massacre occurred.

The unnamed infant is now recovering in a hospital in Goya, a city in the northern Argentine region of Corrientes, and is out of danger. Doctors removed the bullet that had been shot from her father's handgun and had narrowly missed her vital organs.

Her parents, 56 year-old Francisco Otero and Miriam Coletti, 23, had reportedly entered into a suicide pact over their fears about global warming. A note, reported to be written by Otero, was discovered by police inside their home.

The gruesome case has shocked locals in Goya. According to local news outlet, Corrientes Hoy, the father was a faith healer who had inherited a fortune, including a number of properties, and had become a devotee of parapsychology.

His cousin, Javier Grenat, told the paper that "he had seemed nervous lately, he was in a bad way" but that he never used black magic in his healing.
