4 Dead in Canada School Shooting, 2 Critically Injured
The shooting took place in Saskatchewan.
-- Four people are dead and two critically injured after a school shooting Friday in Canada, officials said.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau initially said five people had died, but the Royal Canadian Mounted Police later said that the death toll was four.
Several victims were rushed to local hospitals with gunshot wounds, according to reports, and the La Loche Community School, in northern Saskatchewan, was put on lockdown.
"There is currently an emergency occurring at the Dene Building and we are asking the public to stay away while the matter is resolved," the school wrote on Facebook. "We will not be allowing anyone in or out until we have a clear idea of what is going on."
The alleged shooter is in police custody, Trudeau said.
The La Loche Community School houses students from kindergarten to 12th grade on two separate campuses. Grades 7 through 12 attend class at the Dene Building.
About 900 students are enrolled at the school, with 60 full-time teachers and 50 additional staff members, according to the school's Facebook page.
