Dancing Buckingham Palace Guard Could Face Disciplinary Action
A visitor to Buckingham Palace posted the video on YouTube
-- A Buckingham Palace guard who made tourists giggle at the sight of his spins while on duty may face disciplinary action.
A video posted to YouTube last month shows the guard, who was not identified, forgoing the traditional, solemn march in front of the monarch’s palace in favor of a lightened up version that includes comically speeding up and slowing down his pace and spinning the length of the area he is there to protect.
Bemused tourists can be heard in the background of the video giggling and wondering if the antics of the Grenadier Guardsman will get him in trouble.

In perhaps a bit of foreshadowing, the YouTube user, Andy Richards, wrote in the video’s caption, “A Buckingham Palace guardsman misbehaves on duty while The Queen is on holiday. His senior officer might be having a chat with him later…”
Now a spokesman for the UK’s Ministry of Defense has confirmed that the agency has launched an internal investigation into the guard’s antics.
“We are aware of the video. Anyone who is found to fall short of the Army’s high standards can expect to face appropriate action,” the spokesman told the UK’s Daily Mail, which first reported the story.
The Grenadier Guard is an elite branch of the UK Army. It is one of the branch’s ceremonial divisions, the Queen’s Guard, that stands in front of Buckingham Palace.
The guards are well known not only for their red uniforms and tall black hats, but also the precision and order in their daily Changing of the Guards and their two-hour “tour of duty” in which they pace in front of the palace.
The guards may not, “eat, sleep, smoke, stand easy, sit or lie down” during their tour, according to the Daily Mail.
